We're parents to four, homeschoolers, and we share a simple desire to be like Jesus. We're Ron and Alison Ott.
Ron: In 2015, my doctor discovered I'd contracted a severe illness with crippling symptoms from a tick bite. The following week Alison almost died from a blood infection. Nonetheless, I felt at peace during the resulting period of utter helplessness as God was preparing us for an unexpected chapter of our life together.
Alison: Before we married, we somehow overlooked one crucial conversation: children. I wanted a large family, a minimum of four kids. I assumed Ron would, too. I mean, who doesn't want kids? I found out months after our wedding day my sweet husband had absolutely no desire for kids. Ever.
Ron: Flash forward to present day, and we have those four children my wife dreamed about, and they're awesome. And I wouldn't trade a single moment with them for the world. Alison didn't win; God changed my life and my heart. And we thought we were done... Did I mention God changes hearts?
God laid the prospect of adoption on our hearts over a year ago. This was so unexpected we immediately began praying for direction and sought Biblical counsel from our pastor. He advised us to continue praying about it and to be still and wait on the Lord. "They're not puppies," he said. "These are children. You can't give them back." He said if it was something the Lord was truly calling us to do, it would continue to tug at our hearts.
And the Lord continued to tug.
As we prayed for direction, we both had the feeling we were supposed to adopt not just one child, but a sibling group. But how many? I know I don’t want to be the one to tell God what He can and can’t do for us or how He can bless our family. If He desires for us to adopt one, two, or even six kids, we have decided we will say yes.
After much prayer, the Lord led us to pursue the adoption of a sibling group from Poland! We're so excited to add to our family, and we hope you'll consider helping us make this dream a reality.
Our pastor has always said, “where God guides, He provides.” So our plan is to be those crazy people who actually have the faith to believe God is who He says He is and to enjoy the journey He has placed us on.
on and I love reading about George Müller and his incredible faith in God to provide all of his needs. Müller took care of thousands of orphans without ever asking for anything from anyone except God. We have no earthly idea how we’ll end up paying for this adoption process, but we do know God can provide the money necessary to bring these kids home, and we are trusting in His promise. As we've learned in 2 Chronicles 20:17 we don’t have to worry. We just have to position ourselves, stand still, and watch the salvation of the LORD.
In addition to the work we're doing to raise funds ourselves by selling things we make, we've started a fundraiser on Pure Charity to help raise the funding we need for the very expensive adoption process.
Matthew 21:22 says "And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." He has called us to this great adventure, and He will provide in His way and His time. Maybe you're someone He wants to use for this. You can participate in bringing the newest Otts home simply by giving.
Every donation – no matter how large or small – is important and will help make this adoption a success. Would you kindly consider making a donation? Also, we would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may want to participate.
We'd certainly love it if you'd pray for us about this journey, too. Thank you so much for being a part!
